Crusaders v Glentoran C.I.S.
Semi-Final 6th Nov 2007 (Windsor Park)
Crusaders gained a very sweet revenge for
the previous weeks Co Antrim Shield defeat by Glentoran by coming away with
a 1-0 victory in the CIS Cup semi-final.
This was a real determined victory and a real team effort, the first half
once again saw Crusaders having most of the play counter attacking with
style but all finishing efforts went astray, Hogg had to look smart when he
got down well to thwart Fordyce in the 17th minute and shortly after this he
did well to prevent Halliday. But it was Crusaders who looked more
purposeful with Rainey causing problems to the Glens defence and Stephen
McBride looking dangerous with some foraging runs down the left. But it was
a great move out of defence which saw the Crues go ahead in injury time in
the first half, Coates brought the ball out and found McBride on the left,
his inch perfect cross was met by the inrushing Rainey who headed past a
bemused Morris in the Glentoran goal. Reward certainly for a commendable
first half performance.

The second half opened with the Glens predictably on the offensive but Crues
weathered the early storm with a firm defensive display, as the game wore on
Crusaders came back strongly and Davy Rainey was denied a penalty when he
was tumbled in the box but Referee Courtney waved play on. Glentoran had few
chances and an effort by Fitzgerald was well blocked and a Nixon overhead
kick was well over the top, Glentoran had a few corners which were ably
dealt with by Aaron Hogg in Crusaders goal who commanded his area well. At
the other end Crues nearly went further ahead when Morrow made a great run
but was denied by a superb stop from Morris. By this stage Glentoran threw
everything at the Crues but an excellent defensive performance saw the Crues
march into their second final of the season on 8th December.
