Crusaders v Lisburn Distillery Sat 20th October 2007
Well this game couldn't have got to a worse start for Crusaders. I'm not sure if Distillery scored their first goal after ten seconds or twelve seconds but either way it was damn quick. I would love to give a detailed description but I others I'm sure hadn't got to my seat by the time we were one down. In fairness to the home side they didn't let their heads drop and had some good moments. Davy Rainey made a good mazy run to the edge of the box beating 3 or 4 defenders but saw his shot blocked. Stephen McBride took a free kick out of the left which was met by Gary Smyth but his headed was directed straight at the Distillery 'keeper. Another header by Chris Morrow sailed just over the bar. The Crues had another free kick this time wide on the right. It was taken by Eamonn Doherty and again Smyth got on the end of it but this time his powerful goal bound header was tipped round the post for a corner. The resulting corner was headed wide by Darren Lockhart. The nearest Distillery came to extending their lead was a volley which went over the bar. Just before the break Smyth took a throw in on the left which was headed on by Lockhart but Ryan Tumelty's attempt was smothered by the Distillery 'keeper. Half time Crusaders 0 - 1 Lisburn Distillery In the 53rd minute Martin Reilly replaced Tumelty. Three minutes later Barry Spence passed the ball back to Gregg Shannon. From right of the goal a hesitation caused the clearance to rebound off the advancing Darren Armour and deflect into the open goal. Crusaders could have pulled one back when Steven Coulter's shot on the turn was well saved. Any inkling that it might be Crusaders' day was extinguished when a Distillery free kick deflected off the wall into the top corner. The Crues did get a consolation goal at the death when, after a scramble in the Distillery box Lockhart knocked the ball in. The final whistle went shortly afterwards Referee - Ken Ginnett Team 1:Shannon, 2:Magowan, 3:McBride, 4:Doherty (Caddell 75), 5:Spence, 6:Smyth, 7:Morrow, 8:Lockhart, 9:Coulter, 10:Rainey, 11:R Tumelty (Reilly 53)
