Crusaders v Glenavon 11th December 2007

After the disappointment of the postponement of the CIS Final against Linfield on 8 December the Crues had a chance to clear the frustration out of their system with this rearranged League game against Glenavon. But the visitors had a nasty shock in store when after 3 minutes Glenavon winger Murray put them in front when he shot high into Aaron Kerr's net, this was Aaron's home debut. Glenavon pressurised the home side for a short spell after the goal, but in reality had no answer when the Crues stepped the pace. After 18 minutes Lockhart crossed into the area and the inrushing Coulter just missed the ball by inches, Coulter again failed to capitalise Doherty's cross from the left. Murphy who has been receiving great reports in the Glenavon goal prevented Rainey levelling the scores when he made a good one-to-one stop. But the Crues who had a good penalty claim waved away when Coulter was bundled over in the area finally got on level terms, when Barry Spence scored his sixth penalty of the season sending Murphy the wrong way from the resulting penalty after Rainey was taken down.

Sloppy finishing and an inspirational display by Murphy prevented the scoreline becoming embarrassing as the Crues took the initiative in a very one sided second half. Morrow was just wide with a header from McAllister's cross and shortly after this sloppy defending left Coulter clear and this time he made no mistake putting the Crues ahead. Doherty and Coulter both missed good chances, but it was Aaron Kerr who made a good save from McGinnis in the closing stages preventing Glenavon getting what would really would have been an undeserved equaliser.
Solid performance from the Crues who now go on to a very stiff Christmas programme with games against Glentoran the buoyant Limavady Utd, Cliftonville and Linfield before the end of 2007!
