Crusaders v Institute Saturday 8th March 2008 The teams today had to make the most to difficult weather conditions of strong winds and at times driving rain. It made the game not much of a spectacle for the purist but the Crues chalked up their second win in successive home matches. This sees Crusaders jump two places to 7th in the league. The Crues made a great start to this match going one up after 7 minutes when Colin Coates "deflected" a Stephen Hyndes shot past Doherty in the Institute goal. Shortly after Jordan Owens could have extended the lead when the Institute keeper ,who was in for a busy day, saved well when face to face. The wind was making control very difficult with many final passes drifting too long. Steven Coulter, late in the first half, took a free kick from the left edge of the Institute box and he floated it over the keeper but unluckily saw the ball bounce back off the bar. Half time arrived with hopes of more goal mouth action in the second. Half time Crusaders 1 - 0 Institute Crusaders started the second half well into the wind and made a couple of early chances. Owens made room for himself and powered into the Institute box but Doherty yet again saved. Skipper Coates was unlucky to add to his tally when a looped header was tipped onto the bar by the Institute keeper. A cross from wide right fell to Davy Rainey on the edge of the 6 yard box but his volley went straight to the midriff of the 'stute keeper. Stephen McBride made a good run on the left and slotted the ball for Rainey to run on to. Davy took the ball into the box and most of the fans in the stand thought he had scored when the ball smacked into the side netting. The final whistle went and the Crues secured a deserved win even if the result probably flattered the visitors.
