Barn United 4 Crusaders
Reserves 6
Crusaders Reserves came out on top in a ten goal thriller away to Barn Utd
to progress into the next round of the Intermediate Cup.
From the kick off Barn Utd had a defender sent off after 30 seconds for a
horrid challenge on Boylan who was lucky to continue on after receiving
treatment for a ankle injury. From the resulting free kick the ball broke to
Collins and he cut in from the left and his shot went into the bottom corner
of the net with Harris letting the ball run through his legs to dummy the
keeper. Crusaders Reserves went two up after 15 minutes when a Cowan corner
was headed home by Barrett. With 30 minutes on the clock Crusaders Reserves
went further ahead when Barrett broke free but was denied by a defender and
ball broke to Cowan who drilled home from 15 yards. Barn Utd pulled a goal
back when Sharples scored from close range. Immediately though Crusaders
Reserves scored again when Faulkner beat two defenders and the keeper and
his cut back was touched home by an opposing defender. Barn Utd refused to
lie down and pulled a goal back on half time with a good finish from the
edge of the box.
Barn Utd scored after two minutes off the restart from a free kick from 20
yards giving Sergeant no chance in goal. Crusaders Reserves took control
after this set back and scored a fifth when Faulkner did well again on the
right and his passed was touched home by Boylan from 6 yards. Harris scored
the goal of the game when he initially won possesion in his own half and
released Boylan on the right. Boylan outsprinted the defence to cross for
the in coming Harris to score at the back post. Barn scored their fourth in
the last minute from a penalty.
