WKD INTERMEDIATE Cup 3rd Round

Wellington Rec 2 Crusaders Reserves 3

Crusaders Reserves showed great fighting spirit to come from two goals down to win after extra time away to Premier Amateur league side Wellinton Rec. Crusaders Reserves nearly took the lead after 5 minutes when Boylan broke clear in the box and was brought down by the keeper but somehow the ref waved play on. Barrett and Boylan combined well to free Harris but his shot was blocked by an opposing defender. Wellington Rec took the lead with their first attack when a deep cross from the right was misjudged by Hogg giving the Wellington Rec forward an easy task of heading into an empty net. Wellington Rec doubled their lead when Crusaders Reserves cleared a corner but the opposing left back smashed home from 30 yards. Cowan won possession in his own half and beat two defenders but again was upended in the box with the ref again letting play continue. The Wellington Rec keeper made a good save with his kness from an Barrett effort. From a Wellington fRec free kick Magee was adjudged to push an opponent this time the ref had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. Hogg made an execellent save down to his right and reacted quickly blocking the rebound.

Crusaders Reserves continued to press forward and were rewarded after 60 mins when Melly fed Collins on the right and his cross was superbly volleyed home from 10 yards by Harris. The impressive Magee made a last ditch tackle to keep Crusaders Reserves in the game. Collins was next to save the day making two goal line clearances in succession. Crusaders Reserves thought they had equalised when a delicate chip from Cowan hit the inside of the post and bounced to safety. Magee equalised in the last minute with a firm header from a deep Turner corner.

Crusaders Reserves took the lead in the first half of extra time when a long clearance was picked up by Melly who fed Collins on the right. Collins cut inside a defender and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the bottom from 25 yards. Wellington Rec should have equalised from the restart but their no 9 shot wide from 6 yards.

In the second half of extra time Crusaders Reserves defended superbly to hold on for a brilliant win
