A series examining the whys and wherefores of
being a Crues fan
Another Seaview dynasty, this week. Alan Millar, who's 28, follows on in an
immediate link from his late Granddad, Joe. Says Alan, "I remember him being
so delighted the day Syd Burrows lifted the Gibson Cup here. Granda was up
in the main stand, and his photo was in most of he following days papers,
not far behind Syd!"
Alan usually rolls up at Seaview accompanied by his Dad, also called Joe
(sorry if that name is overpowering this week's column!), along with his
uncle, Sam, and cousins Stuart, Sarah, and Christine.
So, then, we put to Mr Millar, the usual questions:
Best Goal? "It has to be Glenn Dunlop's, against Bangor, I think late in
1995. He strolled onto the ball, well inside his own half, and seemed to run
round every one of the Bangor team, then taking it around the keeper, and
pushing the ball into their net, and this was so cool, with the out side of
his foot!"

Next Best Goal? "Big Kirk Hunter's volley
against the Glens, at the Oval, in January 1993. He'd been suffering foul
abuse from the Glenmen, all afternoon, but that goal really shut them up!"
And, Alan, I think I know what you're going to answer here: those golden
Crusaders moments? "The two Irish League Championship win, at Ballymena, and
here at Seaview, against Coleraine. Two very different afternoons. At the
Showgrounds, we knew we'd done enough, by half-time, and it was great to be
on the pitch, celebrating, at the end. Against Coleraine, here, it was much
more tense, but we still made it!"
Final answer, Alan, as Big Chris might order on "Who Wants To Be a
Millionaire?", who is your all-time Crues great?:" Well, I might consider
Kirk Hunter, everybody's hero at the time. Martin Murray, so classy and
skilful. Glen Hunter, for all his goals. But for me, it has still got to be
Glenn Dunlop. Simply the best!" And Tina Turner couldn't have put it better!
Thanks, Alan, and long may that Millar dynasty remain at Seaview!
