Crusaders Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of Gerard Doherty from Derry City. The 37 year old shot stopper leaves the Brandywell after 10 years at the Club and felt the time was right for a new chapter in his career.
Doherty who has played in England and Wales during his career took the capatains armband after the untimely death of Ryan McBride and he helped Derry City win the EA Sports Cup last season. He played over 400 games for Derry City in his time there.
Doherty has signed an 18 month deal and over the next few weeks will get to know his new team mates although Rory Hale, also recently signed from Derry City, Rory Patterson and Mark McChrystal will be familiar faces to him already.
Stephen Baxter is delighted with the signing and said tonight "I am very pleased to get Gerard Doherty to Seaview. His vast experience playing in the League of Ireland will be extremely beneficial to the squad as we push on in the new year. He is brilliant both in the air and as a stopper and the way he commands the box and keeps his defenders alert is superb. A great asset to the group of keepers we already have "
We will catch Gerards words after his first training session.
Welcome to Seaview Gerard and we hope your time here is a trophy laden one.
